Bilateral Relations

The Republic of Moldova and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan hold friendly and cooperative relations, founded on mutual respect and shared interests in developing political, economic, cultural and educational ties. The bilateral partnership offers promise for deeper collaboration in a variety of sectors, anchored by the work of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in Pakistan which serves as a key link between both nations.

Diplomatic & Political Relations

Diplomatic relations between Moldova and Pakistan were formally established soon after Moldova’s independence. For example, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Moldova presented his credentials in Chişinău in February 2021, underscoring the importance Moldova attaches to the bilateral relationship.
In May 2018 the Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs held a meeting with Pakistan’s Ambassador, emphasising that “our bilateral relations have a potential which has not been turned to account” and citing cooperation in agriculture, textile industry and pharmaceuticals.
Over time, regular diplomatic consultations and high-level dialogues have been used to review the state of cooperation and identify further opportunities.

Economic & Trade Relations

Economic engagement forms an essential component of the Moldova-Pakistan bilateral agenda. A business forum held in Chişinău in March 2017 brought together Moldovan and Pakistani businesspeople to explore trade and investment opportunities and to identify sectors of mutual interest.
More recently, in January 2025 the Moldovan Chamber of Commerce and Industry met with Pakistan’s Ambassador to discuss intensification of economic cooperation and the possibility of a Memorandum of Collaboration.
At present, bilateral trade remains modest and under-developed compared to potential. The two sides recognise the opportunity to expand exchanges in key sectors such as agriculture, textiles, technology and food processing.
(If you have specific trade figures you wish to include, ensure they are up-to-date and sourced – the reference article notes that Moldovan exports to Pakistan declined in 2022, while imports from Pakistan showed growth.
The Honorary Consulate remains committed to promoting direct business-to-business contacts, trade delegations and investment feasibility across both countries.

Institutional Framework & Legal Basis

The bilateral cooperation between Moldova and Pakistan operates through established diplomatic channels, supported by the foreign-affairs ministries of both countries and institutions such as the Chambers of Commerce.
In the economic domain, meetings such as those of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova with Pakistan’s business community indicate the intent to formalise cooperation by way of memoranda or agreements.
The Consulate serves as the key institutional contact for facilitating communication, supporting business groups, advising citizens and advancing the bilateral agenda in Pakistan.
